Introduction to the Tiger Protection Initiative

The government of Uttarakhand has announced a significant initiative aimed at bolstering tiger conservation efforts. A new Tiger Protection Force (TPF) will be established in the Rajaji Tiger Reserve, inspired by the successful model in Corbett National Park. The recruitment will prioritize 'Agniveers', soldiers who have completed their service under the Agnipath scheme. This decision was made during a meeting of the State Wildlife Board, presided over by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Key Decisions for Wildlife Conservation

During the meeting, various crucial resolutions were adopted concerning wildlife conservation, strategies to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, the application of modern technology, and efforts to combat wildlife trafficking. The government is committed to enhancing local community involvement while ensuring the safety of tigers.

Role of Agniveers in Wildlife Protection

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized the importance of utilizing trained Agniveers in wildlife protection roles. He expressed that the state's conservation initiatives would be significantly reinforced. Furthermore, the promotion of wildlife tourism is expected to generate new job opportunities and income for local communities.

Technological Innovations in Conservation

**Tech-based Monitoring and Trafficking Prevention**

The government plans to leverage modern technology for tiger conservation. This includes implementing AI-driven monitoring systems, preserving wildlife corridors, and developing natural water sources and grazing areas. Additionally, there are proposals to equip elephants with radio collars for tracking during the Kumbh-2027 event and to install AI surveillance systems in the Rajaji region. To combat wildlife trafficking, a proposal will be submitted to allow the Forest Department access to Call Detail Records (CDRs) to enhance crime investigation efficiency.

Addressing Human-Wildlife Conflict

**Focus on Reducing Human-Wildlife Conflict**

The government has made several important decisions to tackle human-wildlife conflicts. Brave individuals who save lives during such incidents will be recognized at the state level. There are also directives to ensure timely compensation for families affected by wildlife attacks. A proposal to create regional leopard treatment and rehabilitation centers in ten districts will be forwarded to the Central Government.

Moreover, scientific research on bear and leopard behavior will be initiated, and the establishment of human-wildlife conflict management committees in every district will be expedited. The government has assured that all projects will progress while balancing development with environmental conservation.
