Significant Updates to Teacher Recruitment in Uttar Pradesh

The government of Uttar Pradesh has made important modifications to the recruitment procedures for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in aided secondary schools. These changes include revised qualification criteria for specific subjects and an updated examination syllabus. A key highlight is the reinstatement of Biology as a subject for TGT recruitment, while a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject is now required for certain PGT positions. The government aims to enhance transparency in the recruitment process and ensure that qualified subject experts are appointed in schools.

Biology Reintroduced for TGT Recruitment

The new regulations for TGT recruitment in aided secondary schools have been officially announced by Special Secretary Krishna Kumar Gupta. Biology has been reintroduced as a subject for TGT recruitment, affecting 4,512 aided secondary schools across the state. This decision opens up opportunities for candidates with a background in Biology, which the government believes will contribute positively to science education.

Mandatory Postgraduate Qualifications for PGT Positions

The updated recruitment framework has established clearer and stricter eligibility criteria for certain PGT roles. For instance, candidates applying for the PGT Geography position must now hold a postgraduate degree specifically in Geography. Likewise, only those with a postgraduate degree in Political Science will be eligible for the Lecturer (Civics) role. The qualification requirements for other subjects remain unchanged.

Implementation of New Syllabus and Rules

These revised regulations have been put into effect following the Governor's endorsement. New directives have been sent to relevant officials, including the Director of Secondary Education and the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education. Distinct eligibility criteria have been established for Science and Biology teachers at the high school level, replacing previous orders. The government asserts that these modifications will enhance the transparency of the recruitment process, aid in selecting qualified subject experts, and ultimately improve educational quality.
