UPSC Expands Examination Centers for Civil Services Aspirants
Excitement Surrounds UPSC Civil Services Examination
The UPSC Civil Services Examination, known for its challenging nature, has sparked considerable enthusiasm among countless young candidates this year. While some are studying in their hometowns, others are dedicating long hours in rented accommodations across major urban areas. In a positive development, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced three additional examination centers, which have been well-received by students, with over 23,000 opting for these new locations.
Increase in Examination Centers
As a result, the total number of examination centers for the Civil Services Examination has increased from 80 to 83. The newly added centers are located in Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, and Meerut. The UPSC has indicated that this expansion aims to reduce congestion at existing centers and make travel easier for candidates.
Positive Impact on Students
The UPSC reported that around 23,000 candidates have chosen these new centers, significantly alleviating the burden on nearby examination venues. Each year, many students travel to different cities for the exam, which often leads to challenges related to travel, lodging, and costs.
This initiative is anticipated to provide substantial relief to thousands of candidates.
Chairman's Commitment to Accessibility
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar highlighted that the Commission is dedicated to enhancing the examination process to be more accessible and student-friendly. He noted that the addition of new centers is aimed not only at reducing overcrowding but also at improving facilities for students.
Student Preferences for New Centers
The response to the new centers has been overwhelmingly positive. Bhubaneswar received the highest number of applications at 10,656, which has helped ease the load at the Cuttack center. Kanpur attracted 6,938 candidates, reducing congestion at the Lucknow center, while Meerut was selected by 5,902 students, particularly benefiting those from Western Uttar Pradesh who previously relied on Ghaziabad.
Upcoming Preliminary Examination
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination is set to take place this Sunday. Each year, a vast number of students participate, but only a select few achieve success. This examination is crucial for selecting officers for esteemed services such as IAS, IPS, and IFS. This year, the UPSC has received a staggering 819,372 applications, reflecting the strong interest in Civil Services among the youth.
Support for Candidates with Disabilities
In a commendable move, the UPSC has made special provisions for candidates with disabilities. The Commission has worked to allocate centers that meet the needs of these candidates, creating additional seats where necessary. In the Delhi region alone, around 805 candidates with benchmark disabilities were assigned to their preferred examination centers, marking a significant and thoughtful initiative by the UPSC.
