If you're aiming to pursue a Master’s degree but are hindered by financial limitations, there are several scholarship options available to assist you. Let's delve into how these opportunities can support your educational journey.

Many students dream of advancing their education after completing their undergraduate studies, yet financial challenges often impede their progress. To alleviate this issue, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has established various scholarship programs aimed at supporting deserving students with financial aid.

For those who have finished their undergraduate education and are looking to enroll in a Master’s program, these UGC scholarships can be incredibly beneficial. They offer monthly or annual financial support, easing the burden of educational expenses.

Special Scholarships for High Achievers

One of the prominent scholarships provided by the UGC is the National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies (NSPGS). This initiative targets students who have excelled in their undergraduate studies and are now pursuing their first Master’s degree.

Selected candidates under this scheme receive ₹15,000 monthly for a period of two years, allowing thousands of students to complete their education without financial stress.

Support for University Top Performers

The UGC also offers a scheme for students who achieve top ranks in their colleges or universities. The ‘Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders’ (URH) provides financial aid to those who secure the first or second rank in their undergraduate exams.

Students benefiting from this scheme receive a monthly stipend of ₹3,100 for two years, encouraging them to continue their academic pursuits.

Assistance for SC and ST Students

To promote higher education among students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, the UGC has introduced a specific scholarship for SC/ST students. This Professional Post Graduate Course Scholarship supports those studying Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and other professional fields.

Students enrolled in M.E. and M.Tech. programs can receive up to ₹7,800 per month, while those in other professional courses are granted ₹4,500 monthly.

Scholarship for Single Girl Children

To encourage female education, the UGC has initiated the Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship. This program is aimed at female students who are the only child in their family and are pursuing postgraduate studies.

Eligible students receive ₹36,200 annually for two years, promoting the pursuit of higher education among girls.

Eligibility and Application Process

While eligibility criteria may differ across various scholarship schemes, applicants generally need to be Indian citizens enrolled in a recognized postgraduate program. Some scholarships may also have specific age limits and minimum academic performance requirements.

To apply, candidates must first complete a One-Time Registration (OTR). After logging in, they can select the appropriate UGC scholarship scheme, fill out the application form, and upload the required documents. Once submitted, students can track their application status through the portal.
