UIDAI Collaborates with Education Department for Aadhaar Biometric Updates in Schools

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has teamed up with the Department of School Education and Literacy to streamline the biometric update process for Aadhaar Cards of school children. This initiative aims to address the backlog of 17 crore pending updates by utilizing the UDISE+ application, allowing schools to easily access information on which students require updates. UIDAI's CEO has reached out to state officials to organize camps in schools, ensuring that all children aged 5 to 15 have their biometric data accurately recorded. This collaboration is expected to enhance the reliability of Aadhaar data for millions of students.

Aadhaar Card Updates for School Children

Aadhaar Card Initiative: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with the Department of School Education and Literacy to provide access to the status of mandatory biometric updates for school children's Aadhaar Cards via the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application. This initiative aims to ensure that biometric updates are accessible for millions of students.

Pending Biometric Updates: Currently, there are approximately 17 crore Aadhaar numbers that require mandatory biometric updates for children aged between 5 and 15 years. Completing these updates is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of children's biometric data.

Implementation in Schools: UIDAI's CEO, Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, has communicated with Chief Secretaries across States and Union Territories regarding this initiative, seeking their support in organizing targeted MBU (Mandatory Biometric Update) camps in schools.

In his correspondence, he stated, "Organizing camps through schools could effectively address the backlog of pending MBUs. The challenge was identifying which students had not completed their biometric updates. The technical teams from UIDAI and the Department of School Education and Literacy have collaborated to create a solution using the UDISE+ application, enabling schools to access information on pending MBUs."

Understanding UDISE+:
The Integrated District Information System for Education Plus serves as an educational management information system under the Department of School Education and Literacy, gathering various data related to school education. This collaborative effort between UIDAI and the Education Department is anticipated to streamline the biometric update process for children.
