SSC Implements Strict Ban on Question Paper Sharing to Enhance Exam Integrity
New Regulations by SSC
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced a significant measure aimed at preserving the integrity of competitive examinations. In a recent notice, the SSC has prohibited the sharing of any examination-related materials on social media or other online platforms.
The SSC has observed that certain individuals and coaching centers have been discussing and analyzing question papers on social media during or shortly after the exams. This practice is now strictly forbidden under the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 (PEA Act 2024).
Consequences for Violators
Penalties for Breaching the Law
Individuals found guilty of violating this regulation may face severe penalties, including imprisonment ranging from 3 to 5 years and fines up to ₹10 lakh.
Institutions involved in such activities could incur fines of up to ₹1 crore, be blacklisted, and barred from participating in future examinations.
In cases deemed organized crime, offenders could face 5 to 10 years of imprisonment along with a minimum fine of ₹1 crore.
Rationale Behind the Ban
Reasons for the SSC's Decision
The SSC's decision comes in response to the rapid dissemination of question papers and their analyses on social media, which has raised concerns about the confidentiality of the examination process. Many candidates have reported that diligent students are adversely affected by these trends, prompting the commission to adopt a stricter stance.
Guidelines for Candidates
Important Reminders for Examinees
- Avoid sharing question papers on social media, even after the examination concludes.
- Refrain from engaging in paper analysis through coaching classes, YouTube channels, or any online platforms.
- The commission has issued a stern warning that no one will be exempt from consequences in such cases.
- This initiative by the SSC is viewed as a crucial step towards enhancing the transparency and credibility of the examination process.
