Sri Lankan Prime Minister's Visit to IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi: Following a memorable visit to her alma mater, Hindu College at Delhi University, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Niraika Amarasuriya continued her trip to India with a focus on enhancing educational, research, and academic collaborations between India and Sri Lanka.
On Friday, she explored opportunities for collaboration in higher education, innovation, and school teaching models by visiting the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, followed by a visit to CM Shri School in Rohini.
Focus on Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
At IIT Delhi, she was welcomed by Professor Arvind Nema, Deputy Director (Operations), and Professor Anil Verma, Dean of International Programs, along with faculty members, international students, and representatives from startups. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as research, innovation, and capacity building.
Amarasuriya was informed about startups operated by FITT-IIT Delhi, including CYRAN AI, which showcased the BUDDHI AI DIY kit, and Cluix, which demonstrated a portable water quality analyzer.
What is the BUDDHI Kit?
The BUDDHI kit is designed to assist students in learning, experiencing, and practically creating artificial intelligence projects, thereby fostering interest in STEM education. The Sri Lankan leader also visited the Research and Innovation Park, where she observed several emerging technologies being developed by IIT Delhi researchers.

Dr. Amarasuriya remarked, 'IIT Delhi is a prestigious engineering and research institution in our neighborhood. I believe there are immense possibilities for academic and research collaboration between our institutions and IIT Delhi.'
She added, 'We are already collaborating with IIT Madras, and we are eager to expand our partnership with IIT Delhi.'
Reaffirming IIT Delhi's Commitment
Professor Nema expressed that the institute is honored to host the Sri Lankan Prime Minister and reiterated IIT Delhi's commitment to strengthening partnerships with Sri Lankan institutions. He invited more Sri Lankan students to pursue postgraduate and PhD programs at IIT Delhi, as well as undergraduate studies at the Abu Dhabi campus.
