Significant Changes for Military Nursing Service Employees: New Ex-Servicemen Status
Important Updates for Military Nursing Service Personnel
New Developments for MNS Employees: A major announcement has been made for those employed in the Military Nursing Service (MNS). The Ministry of Defense has introduced a significant change, granting MNS personnel the status of ex-servicemen. This adjustment will simplify the re-employment process for these individuals. The Defense Ministry has revised the regulations to implement this change, which will take effect on February 9, 2026. The Ex-Servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Amendment Rules, 2026 have been officially notified under Article 309 of the Central Government.
In this article, we will delve into the details of which MNS employees are now recognized as ex-servicemen and the advantages this new status will provide.
Who Qualifies as Ex-Servicemen:
The Ministry of Defense has made a pivotal amendment to include MNS personnel in the ex-servicemen category. Specifically, Rule 2(c)(i) has been updated to encompass MNS employees from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. Importantly, this definition applies to all MNS staff, irrespective of their rank, whether combatant or non-combatant.
Enhanced Re-employment Opportunities:
With this new classification, MNS employees will enjoy the same re-employment benefits as other ex-servicemen. The Ministry of Defense has indicated that MNS personnel will now benefit from a 10% reservation in Group C job recruitments, a 20% reservation in Group D positions, age relaxation (military service plus an additional 3 years), and equal consideration in UPSC/SSC recruitment processes.
