Railway Vacancy: Recently, news emerged regarding the recruitment of 22,000 Group D positions within the railways. In addition, a new opportunity has arisen as the Railway Board plans to directly hire ex-servicemen for Pointsman roles, which are essential for rail safety. A circular from the Railway Board indicates that 5,058 Pointsman roles will be filled by ex-servicemen on a contractual basis nationwide. An official from the board mentioned that these recruitments will be facilitated through the ex-servicemen welfare boards at both central and state levels.


Training and Contract Details

A training program lasting 24 days will be mandatory before the appointment to the Pointsman role. Those who do not successfully complete the training will face termination. Initially, the contract will be valid until December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension subject to board approval. The services of ex-servicemen hired on a contract will end once permanent candidates are appointed through the Railway Recruitment Cell. Notably, there are currently around 34,000 vacant Pointsman positions in the railways.
