Overview of Women's Opportunities: The Indian Army is increasingly welcoming women into its ranks, offering various entry schemes that enable them to serve as officers and soldiers. These include Agniveer recruitment, NDA entry, and roles in both technical and non-technical fields, as well as positions in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) and Military Nursing Service.
Key Recruitment Schemes for Women:
Agniveer Recruitment Scheme: This initiative allows women to join the General Duty (GD) ranks as Women Military Police (WMP). It is structured as a four-year service commitment, with the possibility of permanent retention afterward.
Short Service Commission (SSC) for Women Officers: This scheme recruits women officers in two categories: technical and non-technical. The age criteria for non-technical graduates range from 19 to 25 years, while technical graduates can apply between the ages of 20 and 27.
SSCW (JAG) – Judge Advocate General: Female law graduates can apply for this role, with an age limit set between 21 and 27 years. The Army conducts annual recruitment for this position.
National Defence Academy (NDA): Women can also enter the NDA after completing their 10+2 education. Successful candidates will undergo training to become officers. The age limit for NDA applicants is approximately 16.5 to 19.5 years.
Military Nursing Service (MNS): This is a significant entry point for women, requiring a nursing degree (like BSc Nursing) and registration with the State Nursing Council. After selection and training, candidates are commissioned as officers.
