Nomination Process Kicks Off for Student Elections in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: The nomination phase for student union elections commenced on Friday across various colleges and universities in Odisha, signaling the approach of campus elections set for October 15, marking the first such event in eight years.


Candidates are allowed to file their nomination papers between 10 AM and 1 PM, with scrutiny scheduled from 2 PM to 4 PM. The list of accepted nominations will be released by 5 PM.


On Saturday, candidates can withdraw their nominations from 10 AM to 1 PM, and the final list of candidates will be published at 3 PM.


Direct elections are planned for 13 universities and 328 colleges, while 205 institutions will select their student representatives through a different process.


As the campaign intensifies, student organizations are actively engaging with voters to bolster their support ahead of the elections, which have garnered significant attention due to their long-awaited return.


A meeting titled ‘Why I Stand For’ is set for October 14, allowing candidates to share their perspectives and motivations for running.


Voting will occur on October 15 from 8 AM to 2 PM, with counting starting at 2 PM. Results will be announced following the counting process, and the newly elected representatives will take their oaths the next day.
