New Hindi-Medium B.Tech Program Launched for Engineering Students in Madhya Pradesh

The Shri G.S. Institute of Technology and Science in Indore has launched a B.Tech program in Civil Engineering taught in Hindi, aimed at supporting Hindi-medium students. This initiative, which includes a potential ₹2 lakh incentive from the government, addresses the challenges faced by students who struggle with English-language instruction. The program allows students to learn and take exams in Hindi, while also ensuring they develop their English skills for future opportunities. Introduction of Hindi-Medium Engineering Course

In Madhya Pradesh, pursuing an engineering degree is becoming more accessible for students who studied in Hindi. The Shri G.S. Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) in Indore has introduced a B.Tech program in Civil Engineering that will be conducted in Hindi, starting this academic year. Additionally, students enrolled in this program may qualify for a ₹2 lakh incentive from the Madhya Pradesh government during their final year. The institute has allocated a special batch of 30 seats for this initiative, with around 20 students already enrolled.

Support for Hindi-Medium Students

The primary aim of this new course at SGSITS is to integrate students who have completed their education in Hindi into the technical education system. Sunil Ajmera, the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, highlighted that many students from Hindi backgrounds face challenges in understanding engineering concepts when taught in English, which can lead to high dropout rates.

Examinations and Learning in Hindi

With this program, students will have the opportunity to learn engineering subjects in Hindi and take their exams in the same language. This approach is designed to enhance their comprehension of technical concepts.

Preparation and Development of Course Materials

The decision to launch the Hindi-medium engineering course was not made overnight; faculty members have spent nearly four years translating technical materials from English to Hindi. Furthermore, training workshops have been organized to equip teachers with the skills needed to teach technical subjects in Hindi.

Balancing Hindi and English Instruction

While the instruction will primarily be in Hindi, the institute emphasizes the importance of English language skills. Students will continue to develop their English proficiency and technical vocabulary, as knowledge of English is crucial for advanced studies and career opportunities. Thus, while concepts will be taught in Hindi, relevant English technical terms will also be introduced to ensure students are well-prepared for their future.
