Introduction to the Initiative

Army Personnel Jobs: The Indian Army and Indian Railways have introduced a collaborative 'Framework of Cooperation' aimed at enhancing job prospects for Agniveers and retired military personnel, facilitating their transition into civilian roles.

Objective and Oversight

This initiative is overseen by senior officials from both the Army and the Ministry of Railways, focusing on raising awareness about job openings within the Railways and establishing a support system for veterans.

Reservation Policies for Employment

Reservation and Employment Opportunities Under Railway Policy:

Ex-servicemen are entitled to a 10% horizontal reservation for positions at Level 2 and above, and a 20% reservation for Level 1 roles.

Former Agniveers benefit from a 5% reservation in Level 2 and above, and a 10% reservation in Level 1 positions.

For the years 2024 and 2025, a total of 14,788 positions have been allocated for ex-servicemen in railway recruitments, with 6,485 at Level 1 and 8,303 at Level 2 and above.

Recruitment Process and Initiatives

Recruitment Process and New Initiatives:

Recruitment for Level 1 (previously Group D) is conducted via competitive exams through Railway Recruitment Centres (RRCs), while Level 2 and above positions are filled through Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

To expedite the hiring process, the Railways will temporarily employ ex-servicemen as 'Pointsmen' until regular recruitment is finalized. Currently, recruitment for over 5,000 Level 1 positions is in progress at zonal and divisional levels, with nine railway divisions having signed MoUs with military organizations.

Strengthening Strategic Cooperation

Strategic Cooperation Also Strengthened:

The partnership between the Railways and the Army is crucial for logistics and troop movement. Projects like the Dedicated Freight Corridors and the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link have enhanced the Army's rapid deployment capabilities.

This framework is viewed as a significant advancement in bolstering national infrastructure and security coordination, ensuring optimal use of veterans' experience, discipline, and technical skills.
