Maharashtra TET Exam Canceled Due to Question Paper Leak
Cancellation of TET Exam in Maharashtra
A significant controversy has erupted in Thane, Maharashtra, following the leak of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) question paper, resulting in the cancellation of the exam. Initially set for tomorrow, the exam was called off after reports indicated that the question paper had been compromised roughly 24 hours earlier. Approximately 400,000 candidates were anticipated to participate, but the decision to cancel has been finalized. A new date for the examination is expected to be announced shortly.
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) in Pune has officially postponed the TET 2026, which was originally planned for June 28, 2026, until further notice. The Council noted that the exam was scheduled to take place at 1,028 centers statewide, with all necessary preparations made in light of the recent NEET 2026 paper leak incidents.
On Saturday morning, acting on a tip-off, the Bhiwandi police executed a raid and discovered questions resembling those on the TET 2026 paper in the possession of certain individuals.
Following this, officials from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination initiated an immediate inquiry, confirming that some of the questions matched the actual exam paper. An FIR has been filed at the Bhiwandi police station regarding this issue.
**Exam Postponed**
The Council has reiterated that ensuring a transparent and fair examination process is its utmost priority. Consequently, the TET exam scheduled for June 28, 2026, has been postponed pending a comprehensive investigation into the leak.
**Police Investigation Underway**
Updates regarding the new exam date will be available on the official website of the Maharashtra State Council of Examination. The decision to cancel the exam was made following an investigation into the seized leaked paper in Thane. The police have initiated a search for those responsible for the leak, and significant actions are anticipated soon.
Education Department Under Scrutiny
The recent TET paper leak incident has once again highlighted the shortcomings within the Education Department, especially following the NEET paper leak controversy. This raises critical questions about how the leak occurred and whether insiders were involved. It seems unlikely that an outsider could orchestrate such a leak without internal collusion. A similar pattern was noted in the NEET case, where the teachers responsible for preparing the exam paper were implicated in the leak.
TET Paper Leak History
Around 428,000 candidates from Maharashtra were set to take this examination, and the leak has jeopardized the future of these aspiring educators. It's important to note that the state has faced similar issues in the past, including a TET paper leak incident from Kolhapur in 2025.
