Maharashtra Government Extends Educational Benefits to Maratha Students

In a significant move, the Maharashtra government has extended educational benefits to Maratha students, previously available only to OBC students. This initiative includes scholarships and skill development programs aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for the Maratha community. The decision follows recent agitation for Maratha reservation and is expected to provide crucial support to financially disadvantaged students. With a commitment to allocate funds for effective implementation, the government aims to empower Maratha youth through better education and employment prospects.

New Educational Initiatives for Maratha Community

The Maharashtra government has made a pivotal move to support students from the Maratha community by granting them educational advantages and concessions that were previously exclusive to the Other Backward Classes (OBC). An official directive has been issued to all relevant departments to ensure the implementation of this initiative, which aims to enhance educational and skill development opportunities for Maratha youth. The government has committed to allocating sufficient funds in upcoming budgets to facilitate the effective execution of these programs.

As per the new order, Maratha students will now have access to the post-Class 10 scholarship scheme that is currently available to OBC students across the state. Furthermore, various scholarship initiatives at primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels will also be extended to benefit Maratha students, aiding those from financially challenged backgrounds in pursuing their education.

**Emphasis on Skill Development and Training**

The government is broadening the scope of its initiatives to encompass not just education but also employment and skill enhancement. The training scheme for motor vehicle drivers and conductors, which was previously limited to the OBC category, will now be available to Maratha youth as well. This program will be managed through the government's 'Sarathi' portal, thereby improving job prospects for the youth.

**Response to Ongoing Agitation**

This decision follows a period of agitation concerning the Maratha reservation. Activist Manoj Jarange recently concluded his hunger strike after discussions with state government officials, during which a 12-point proposal was presented. It is believed that this significant decision, which will have a direct positive impact on Maratha students, is a result of those negotiations.
