Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra Announce Job Reservations for Agniveers

Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have introduced significant employment initiatives for Agniveers nearing the end of their service under the Agnipath scheme. Madhya Pradesh will provide a 20% reservation in various uniformed government jobs, while Maharashtra will exempt the first batch of Agniveers from written exams for direct recruitment into security services. With over 19,000 Agniveers set to be discharged by January 2027, both state and central governments are making provisions to facilitate their transition into civilian roles, ensuring they have ample opportunities in government employment.

Agniveer Jobs: A significant number of Agniveers are nearing the end of their four-year tenure under the Agnipath scheme, leading to increased efforts to facilitate their transition into government employment. Recently, the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra made important announcements aimed at supporting these individuals. Madhya Pradesh has introduced a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in various government uniformed positions, while Maharashtra has declared that the first group of Agniveers completing their service will be directly recruited into specific government security roles without requiring a new written examination.


20% Reservation in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has sanctioned a 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in uniformed positions, including Police Constable, Special Armed Force, Jail Guard, Forest Guard, and Excise Constable. Additionally, there will be a 10% reservation for Home Guards and 5% for ex-servicemen in the Police Constable and Special Armed Force categories. For Jail Guard and Forest Guard roles, the reservation will be 15% for Home Guards, 5% for ex-servicemen, and 20% for former Agniveers. A similar 20% reservation applies to Excise Constable positions.


Maharashtra's Exemption from Written Exams

In Maharashtra, the government has announced special provisions for the first batch of Agniveers completing their service between November 2026 and January 2027. These individuals will be directly integrated into the Maharashtra Police, State Reserve Police Force, and Firefighting Services. They will be exempt from the new written examination and will receive a four-year age relaxation. If necessary, special posts may be created for them, ensuring that they do not have to retake the general written examination for these roles.


Discharge of Over 19,000 Agniveers by January 2027

The Agnipath scheme stipulates a four-year service period for Agniveers in the armed forces, with 25% given the chance to continue their service while the remaining 75% will be discharged after four years. The first batch, consisting of over 19,000 Agniveers, is expected to be discharged by January 2027. Both the Central and state governments have established reservations and benefits for these individuals in government jobs.


Central Government Reservations for Agniveers

The Central Government has also allocated job opportunities for former Agniveers across various departments. A 50% reservation has been set aside for them in Constable and Rifleman positions within the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and Assam Rifles. They are exempt from written examinations, physical standards, and physical efficiency tests for these recruitments. Furthermore, Indian Railways has introduced a 5% horizontal reservation in Group-2 and higher-level posts, and a 10% horizontal reservation in Group-1 posts for former Agniveers.
