Launch of NIELIT Digital University Aims to Transform Digital Education
Introduction to NIELIT Digital University
On October 2nd, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav unveiled the NIELIT Digital University platform, alongside the inauguration of five new centers. This initiative is aimed at making high-quality digital education accessible to all. The newly established centers are located in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Lunglei (Mizoram), and Daman in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Courses Offered at NIELIT Digital University
The NIELIT Digital University will offer programs focused on key technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and semiconductors. These courses are designed to equip students with the skills needed for future job markets. Minister Vaishnav noted that the decision to create this digital university was made three years ago.
Industry Collaboration
Vaishnav emphasized the importance of aligning educational programs with industry needs, similar to the Gati Shakti University model in the transportation sector. The goal is to ensure that NIELIT remains closely connected to the demands of various industries.
Diverse Course Offerings
S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, highlighted the extensive range of courses available on the NDU platform, allowing students to select based on their interests. He also pointed out that NIIT centers are strategically located in remote areas to address the lack of quality educational institutions.

The NIIT Digital University Platform (ndu.digital) aims to establish a world-class, inclusive, and affordable digital education system. It supports the objectives of Digital India, NEP 2020, and Skill India, with a vision to empower 4 million learners by 2030 in emerging fields like AI, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.
Main Campus Location
NIIT has been recognized as a deemed university under the Distinction Category by the Ministry of Education, with its main campus situated in Ropar, Punjab. It has eleven constituent campuses across various locations including Aizawl, Agartala, Aurangabad, Calicut, Gorakhpur, Imphal, Itanagar, Ajmer (Kekri), Kohima, Patna, and Srinagar, aiming to revolutionize higher education in the e- and ICT sectors through digital technologies.
