Paths to Join the Air Force After Class 12

How to get a job in the Air Force after Class 12?
Choosing to join the Air Force post-Class 12 is a commendable decision. There are two primary pathways: becoming an officer through the NDA or serving in technical and non-technical roles via the 'Agniveer Vayu' scheme. Each option has distinct eligibility criteria and features.

NDA Entry: The Premier Route to Officer Status

After completing the Class 12 board exams (with mandatory Physics and Mathematics), candidates can enter the Air Force as a Flying or Ground Duty Officer through the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Age Limit: Candidates must be aged between 16.5 and 19.5 years for the NDA exam.

Selection Process: This includes a written test, followed by an SSB interview and a comprehensive medical examination.

Agniveer Vayu: A Youthful Opportunity

Under the Agniveer scheme, the 'Agniveer Vayu' option is gaining traction among Class 12 graduates. This program allows young individuals to serve as airmen in the Air Force for a four-year term.

Eligibility: Candidates who have completed Class 12 in the Science stream (Mathematics, Physics, and English) or from other streams (Arts/Commerce) can apply.

Age Limit: Applicants must be between 17.5 and 21 years old at the time of application.

Selection Process: The selection involves an online written exam, a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), and an adaptability test.

AFCAT: A Pathway After Graduation

The AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is primarily for graduates. However, Class 12 students should note that after completing their degree, they can become Commissioned Officers in the Flying and Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) branches. A minimum of 60% in graduation and 50% in Mathematics and Physics in Class 12 is required.

Joining the Indian Air Force demands more than just academic excellence; physical fitness, mental acuity, and a strong sense of dedication to the nation are essential.
