Savita Pradhan's Early Life

Savita contributed to household chores and farming, and as a tribal student, she received a scholarship. She was the first girl from her village to pass the 10th grade.
Savita's Aspirations
After completing her 10th grade, Savita had to travel about 7 kilometers to continue her education. Her dream was to become a doctor, but during this time, her family arranged her marriage without thorough consideration. She got married about a year after her engagement, at just 16-17 years old.
Challenges in Married Life
In an interview, Savita recounted the difficulties she faced in her marital life, stating that she endured various restrictions and abuse in her in-laws' home. She claimed that she often went hungry and had to hide bread to eat in the bathroom. Physical abuse was also part of her experience.
The situation deteriorated to the point where she became mentally and physically exhausted. After a health crisis that required hospitalization, she returned to her parental home, already a mother of two. With her mother's support, Savita decided to rebuild her life.
Balancing Responsibilities and Education
While managing her children's needs, Savita continued her studies. To meet financial demands, she worked at a beauty parlor. During this time, she completed her Master's degree and topped her college. She then learned about civil services, filled out the application for the MPPSC exam, and began her preparations.
Savita reached the interview stage of the exam on her first attempt and received a scholarship of approximately 75,000 rupees. She continued to work hard and achieved success in becoming an officer on her first try, with her initial posting in the Gotegaon municipality of Narsinghpur district.
Personal Struggles Persist
Even after becoming an officer, Savita's personal challenges did not completely vanish. She reported that her husband's abuse continued.
