- To serve as a Pandit, candidates need an 'Acharya' or 'Shastri' degree in Sanskrit along with a diploma in 'Karmakand'.
- Granthis must be proficient in Punjabi.
- Muslim candidates should have qualifications such as 'Maulvi Alim' in Arabic or 'Adib Alim' in Urdu.
- Christian candidates require a certificate of priesthood from an accredited institution.
Age and Physical Standards for Recruitment
Candidates aspiring to become Religious Teachers must be aged between 25 and 34 years. The physical eligibility criteria include:
- A minimum height of 160 cm for general candidates, 157 cm for Gorkhas and Ladakhis, and 155 cm for candidates from Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.
- A minimum weight of 50 kg for general candidates and 48 kg for Gorkhas.
- Completion of a 1.6-kilometer run within 8 minutes, with additional time for candidates from hilly regions.
Salary Structure for Religious Teachers
In the Indian Army, Religious Teachers hold the rank of Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs). Their salary ranges from ₹57,100 to ₹1,77,000, along with benefits such as canteen services, government housing, and various allowances. Previously, the pay band was ₹9,300 – ₹34,800 with a Grade Pay of ₹4,200, now updated to Level 10.
Selection Process for Religious Teachers
The selection of Religious Teachers involves three key stages:
- A written examination with two papers: Paper 1 on General Knowledge and Paper 2 on the candidate's religious knowledge, each worth 100 marks, with negative marking.
- An interview, also worth 100 marks, where candidates must score at least 50 marks to qualify.
- A screening test that includes a physical fitness assessment, medical examination, and document verification.
