Significant Changes in Age Eligibility: The Indian Air Force has announced a crucial update regarding the Agniveer Vayu Recruitment for 2026. The maximum age limit for applicants has been extended from 21 to 22 years. Previously, candidates aged between 17.5 and 21 were eligible. Now, individuals born between January 1, 2005, and July 1, 2009, can apply, allowing many young people who were previously ineligible due to age constraints to participate.


Reopening of Application Process:
The Air Force has also revealed that the application window will reopen. The earlier deadline of February 8, 2026, has been revised. Eligible candidates can now submit their applications online from March 3, 2026, to March 10, 2026, via the official website: iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in/agniveervayu. According to a report from a reliable source within the Ministry of Defense, this change aims to provide more youth with the chance to join the program.


Educational Qualifications Required:
For candidates from the Science stream: A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 with subjects including Mathematics, Physics, and English is necessary, along with at least 50% in English. Engineering diploma holders from recognized institutions are also eligible.


For other streams: Candidates must have passed the 12th standard examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and 50% in English.


Application Fee Details:
The application fee for all categories is ₹550 plus 18% GST. Payments must be made online using credit cards, debit cards, net banking, or UPI.


Selection Process Overview:
The recruitment will occur in three stages:



  1. Stage 1: Computer-Based Online Exam: There will be a negative marking of 0.25 for each incorrect answer.

  2. Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test:
    Male candidates must complete a 1.6 km run in 7 minutes, while female candidates must do so in 8 minutes. Additional physical tests will include push-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

  3. Stage 3: Medical Examination: Candidates will undergo a medical examination according to Air Force standards.


Selected Agniveers will earn a monthly salary ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 during their four-year tenure. The salary starts at ₹30,000 in the first year and increases to ₹40,000 by the fourth year. Upon completion of service, a 'Seva Nidhi' package of approximately ₹10.04 lakh will be provided. Based on performance, 25% of Agniveers may be considered for permanent cadre inclusion. This decision is a significant relief for young individuals who were previously barred due to age limits.
