In a groundbreaking initiative, IIT Madras has partnered with NCERT to develop textbooks in students' mother tongues, enhancing educational accessibility across India. This collaboration aims to integrate advanced technologies like AI and machine learning to improve learning experiences and teacher training. The project aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy, focusing on inclusivity and quality in education. With plans to digitize textbooks in 22 languages, this effort seeks to ensure that children can learn in their native languages, paving the way for a more effective educational framework. Explore how this partnership is set to transform the educational landscape.

Introduction to the Initiative

NCERT Textbooks: Students nationwide will soon have access to textbooks in their native languages. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is set to play a pivotal role in creating these educational resources aimed at mother tongue instruction. An agreement has been established between the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and IIT Madras to facilitate this initiative.

Technological Integration in Education

This partnership will leverage advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and information technology to enhance student learning, teacher training, and the creation of digital educational materials. According to Union School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar, this initiative aims to foster technological advancements and collaborative research within the educational sector.

Goals of the Collaboration

The primary goal of this collaboration is to enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and quality within the educational framework by employing state-of-the-art technologies, including AI and ML.

Kumar emphasized that this joint effort is vital for achieving the objectives outlined in the new National Education Policy (NEP) and the updated National Curriculum Framework. To ensure that children receive education in their mother tongue, it is essential to digitize all textbooks and make them available in the 22 scheduled languages of India.

Future Directions

There is a pressing need to develop Personally Adaptive Learning (PAL) systems and effective pedagogical and technological tools that align with future skill demands, utilizing AI technologies, he added.
