IIT Madras Introduces Innovative Courses for 2026-27 Academic Year
New Academic Offerings at IIT Madras
IIT Madras, recognized as one of India's leading technical institutions, has unveiled a range of new undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and online courses for the academic year 2026-27. These initiatives aim to equip students with skills that align with contemporary technological advancements and industry demands. The newly introduced programs encompass rapidly evolving domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Semiconductor Technology, Mathematics, Data Science, and Public Policy. Courses Tailored to Industry Requirements

New Bachelor of Science Program in Mathematics
The institute has also rolled out a four-year Bachelor of Science program through its Department of Mathematics. Students can opt for a dual degree by extending their studies for an additional year. This program will allow specialization in areas such as Cryptography, Quantitative Finance, Data Analytics, Computational Mathematics, and AI-based Manufacturing. Furthermore, students will have the chance to take minor courses in Humanities and other fields.
Emphasis on Semiconductors and Public Policy
Additionally, IIT Madras has introduced a new M.Tech program focusing on Semiconductor Materials Technology. This program will delve into subjects like nanofabrication, semiconductor manufacturing, and materials engineering. Admission Criteria and Eligibility
To qualify for the BS programs, candidates must have completed their Class 12 examinations. Admission will be determined based on performance in JEE Advanced, Olympiads, or online qualifiers. For the M.Tech program, candidates need a B.E. or B.Tech degree in the relevant field along with a valid GATE score. Admission to M.Sc. programs will be based on the JAM score.
