IIT Guwahati Introduces New M.Tech Program in Robotics and AI
New M.Tech Program Overview
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has unveiled a fresh M.Tech program focused on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, catering to both recent graduates and experienced professionals. The application window for the inaugural batch is now open, with a submission deadline of July 15. This innovative course will be delivered in a hybrid format, blending online instruction with on-campus lab sessions and final assessments at IIT Guwahati.
Course Structure and Duration
The program spans a minimum of two years, extendable up to five years. It is tailored to accommodate the schedules of working professionals, featuring recorded lectures and a flexible timetable. A standout aspect of this program is its "Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit" framework, allowing students to leave the course at various stages. Upon completing the initial coursework, participants can earn a Post-Graduate Certificate.
Advancing through core and elective courses leads to a Post-Graduate Diploma, while further project work qualifies students for a Master of Science (Engineering) degree, ultimately culminating in the full M.Tech qualification. Notably, students who exit the program can re-enroll after a one-year hiatus.
Admission Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Admission
Prospective candidates must possess a four-year or five-year Bachelor's degree—or an equivalent qualification—in fields such as Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Production, Information Technology, or Design. Those with a Master's degree in relevant areas are also eligible.
A minimum aggregate score of 60% is required, and candidates should have completed Mathematics up to at least the 12th grade.
Admission Process
How to Secure Admission?
IIT Guwahati has stated that a GATE score is not necessary for admission; instead, candidates will be evaluated through a written test and/or an interview conducted by the institute.
Course Commencement and Curriculum
When will classes begin?
The curriculum includes topics such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Robot Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control Systems. This program aims to equip students for careers as Robotics Engineers, AI/ML Engineers, Automation Engineers, Data Scientists, and Intelligent Systems Researchers in diverse sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, defense, and infrastructure. Classes are set to begin on August 10, 2026, and students will have opportunities to visit the IIT Guwahati campus for lab work, project support, and faculty interactions.
