IGCAR Announces Junior Research Fellow Recruitment



The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) has opened applications for the role of Junior Research Fellow (JRF). Interested candidates can apply through the official IGCAR website.


This recruitment initiative by IGCAR, located in Kalpakkam, is seeking to fill 50 JRF positions. The application is available for candidates with backgrounds in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Radiation Physics, and various engineering fields.


Eligibility is restricted to Indian citizens. The online application period commenced on June 22, 2026, and will conclude on July 13, 2026. Applications must be submitted online via the IGCAR official site.


Eligibility Criteria


Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications based on their discipline. For JRF roles in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Radiation Physics, an M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. degree in the relevant field is required. Additionally, a background in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the B.Sc. level is necessary for some positions.


For engineering roles, applicants should hold a B.E., B.Tech., M.E., or M.Tech. degree in the appropriate branch. A valid GATE score is essential for certain positions, while candidates exceeding the GATE cut-off may be invited directly for interviews.


Age Requirements


The upper age limit for applicants is 28 years. However, candidates from reserved categories will receive age relaxation as per government guidelines.


Stipend Information


Candidates selected for the JRF positions will be enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). They will receive a monthly fellowship ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹42,000, providing financial support while conducting advanced scientific research.


Documents Needed


Applicants should prepare the following documents for submission: proof of date of birth, academic certificates and mark sheets from Class 10 onwards, experience certificates (if applicable), caste certificates, disability certificates, NOC, and GATE, UGC-CSIR NET, or JEST scorecards. Both original documents and self-attested photocopies will be required.
