How AI is Shaping the Future Job Market: Insights from Industry Leaders
Navigating the AI Job Landscape
New Delhi: As concerns rise regarding artificial intelligence (AI) potentially displacing jobs, leading figures in the tech sector are urging employees to remain composed and focus on enhancing their skills.
The ability to engage in lifelong learning is essential to adapt to the evolving AI landscape. Industry experts at the AI Impact Summit 2026 emphasized that as AI technology progresses over the next few years, significant workforce changes are anticipated.
During a discussion titled "The Future of Employability in the Age of AI," industry leaders acknowledged that while some jobs may become obsolete, AI is also expected to generate new employment opportunities. They encouraged workers to identify which skills they need to develop.
Sanjeev Bikhchandani, the founder of Info Edge, which operates Naukri.com, shared an analogy from the banking sector's transition to computerization. He noted, "No jobs were lost; instead, productivity increased."
When asked about the potential job losses due to AI, Bikhchandani advised young professionals to focus on how to leverage AI to secure their positions rather than worrying about policy changes. He suggested that they familiarize themselves with valuable AI tools.
"AI is an unstoppable force. If you don’t engage with it, it will impact you. Set a goal to learn three AI platforms in the next three months. The more you engage, the more secure your job will be," he stated.
Tech leaders encouraged professionals to adopt AI technologies and adapt to new advancements to stay relevant in the changing job market.
Sateesh Seetharamiah, CEO of EdgeVerve, a subsidiary of Infosys, remarked that AI serves as a rapid capability enhancer, and the principle of lifelong learning will be crucial in navigating the AI transition.
He highlighted that while AI has increased productivity, human oversight remains essential for job accountability. "Jobs are not disappearing; their nature is simply evolving," he explained.
Vineet Nayar, Founder Chairman of Sampark, predicted that while 50% of current jobs may be affected by AI, an equal number of new roles will emerge, necessitating skilled individuals to manage AI systems.
"AI presents an opportunity for us to reskill. However, we must determine the specific skills needed in our respective fields," Nayar concluded.
