Each year, numerous students encounter challenges due to inaccuracies in their names on 10th and 12th-grade mark sheets. The Haryana Board of School Education in Bhiwani has now implemented a new procedure allowing students to rectify these name errors directly at the board level. This initiative aims to alleviate the burdens students previously faced, such as obtaining notarized affidavits, publishing corrections in newspapers, and making multiple court visits.

Direct Contact with the Board Chairman for Corrections

Under the revised system, students can now reach out directly to the board chairman for name corrections. They are required to submit a handwritten affidavit along with a photocopy of an identification document, like an Aadhaar card or family card, for verification. This process is designed to save students both time and financial resources.

Impact of Name Errors on Documentation

Even minor discrepancies in names on mark sheets can lead to significant complications later. Students often face issues with mismatches in school records, Aadhaar cards, passports, bank accounts, and employment documents, which can disrupt academic or job-related processes. To tackle this issue, the Board has simplified the name correction procedure.

Origin of the Initiative

The initiative was inspired by a student's experience. Board Chairman Prof. Pawan Kumar shared that a student named Jaibir, whose actual name was Jaiveer, faced difficulties because of a name error on his Aadhaar card. After hearing about the student's frustrations, the Chairman proposed this solution during a Board of Directors meeting, which was unanimously approved, granting him the authority to assist students directly.

This decision is expected to provide considerable relief to thousands of students from the Haryana Board. They will no longer need to navigate a lengthy legal process to amend their names. By applying directly at the board office, students can expect a more efficient resolution. This step is viewed as a commendable initiative aimed at benefiting students.
