Government Considers Two-Year Extension for Agniveers in Indian Armed Forces
Potential Extension for Agniveers
Exciting developments are on the horizon for Agniveers serving in the Indian Armed Forces. The Indian government is contemplating a two-year extension of their service tenure. Discussions have been ongoing, and an important announcement may be forthcoming soon. Although no formal confirmation has been issued by the Armed Forces or government officials, a decision is anticipated around November 21.
Completion of Service for the First Batch
The inaugural group of Agniveers is scheduled to conclude their service on November 21. It's important to remember that the 'Agnipath' initiative was introduced in 2022, with the first cohort of Agniveers in the Indian Navy expected to finish their term on November 21, 2026. In this context, the government might provide an extension before their current service period concludes, allowing the first batch to take advantage of this opportunity.
Earlier, the government had indicated that 25% of Agniveers would transition into permanent roles, while the remaining 75% might be eligible for a two-year extension. However, the specifics regarding which Agniveers will receive this extension remain unclear.
End Dates for Agniveers' Service in Various Branches
The first group of Agniveers in the Indian Navy will finish their service on November 21, followed by the Indian Air Force's first batch on December 21, and the Indian Army's first batch on December 31. Upon completing their service, Agniveers will be entitled to a one-time 'Seva Nidhi Package' amounting to ₹11.71 lakh, which is tax-exempt. They will also receive a skill certificate to aid in their future job prospects.
