Eligibility for the NDA

Students currently enrolled in the 12th grade may also apply, provided they meet the passing criteria. It is important to note that marriage during NDA training is strictly prohibited; candidates who marry will be expelled from the program and may be required to reimburse the government for incurred expenses.

What is the required age to join the NDA?
Candidates must be aged between 16.5 and 19.5 years at the start of the course. This age limit applies uniformly across all categories, and only unmarried individuals are eligible to apply.
Post-NDA Training and Career Progression
What happens after passing the NDA?
Upon successful completion of the NDA, candidates will undergo rigorous training, leading to their commissioning as officers in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force. They will start their careers at the rank of Lieutenant, with opportunities to rise through the ranks to Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier, Major General, and Lieutenant General. During their training, candidates receive a monthly stipend of approximately ₹56,100, which continues upon commissioning. Additional benefits include dearness allowance, house rent, transport allowance, and military service pay, along with government housing, free medical care, child education support, rations, and a pension post-retirement.

How and Where Does NDA Training Take Place?
The NDA training program spans three years, integrating both academic and military instruction. Training occurs at the NDA in Khadakwasla, Pune, and the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in fields such as science, arts, or computer science, before advancing to specialized academies. The Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun serves the Army, while the INA caters to the Navy, and the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Hyderabad is designated for the Air Force.
