Application Process and Timeline

Compared to other recruitment processes like CHSL, CGL, and MTS, the competition for stenographer positions is relatively lower due to the requirement of shorthand skills. This makes it an attractive opportunity for many candidates. The application process commenced on April 24, 2026, and interested individuals can fill out the form on the official SSC website.

Deadline for Applications

The last date to submit applications is set for May 15, 2026, with the deadline for fee payment on May 16, 2026. Educational Qualifications Required

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have completed their 12th grade from a recognized board by August 1, 2026. Additionally, shorthand and transcription skills are mandatory for stenographers.

For Grade D, candidates must transcribe in English within 50 minutes and in Hindi within 65 minutes. For Grade C, the time limits are 40 minutes for English and 45 minutes for Hindi.

Age Limit and Relaxations

The age limit is set at 18 to 30 years for Grade C and 18 to 27 years for Grade D. Candidates from reserved categories will receive age relaxations as per government regulations, with SC/ST candidates receiving a 5-year relaxation, OBC candidates 3 years, and additional concessions for PWD candidates.
