Koraput: The Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput is set to increase its MBBS intake by 25 seats, raising the total from 125 to 150.

This change will be implemented starting from the academic year 2027-28, as confirmed by an official on Saturday. The directive comes from the Centre, which has instructed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to proceed with the necessary actions following an order issued on October 29.

“The addition of seats will be contingent upon adherence to all current regulations and requirements,” the official noted. This decision follows a thorough review by the Union government of the application and supporting documents submitted by the medical institution.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling expressed optimism that this initiative will enhance opportunities in medical education, broaden the scope of training, and ultimately lead to an increase in the number of qualified doctors in the future.
