Nayika Odissi Dance Festival Shines in Bhubaneswar


Bhubaneswar: The fifth edition of the Nayika Odissi Dance Festival, hosted by Angaraga, celebrated the essence of Nayika Bhava, embodying the eternal feminine spirit through a series of classical dance performances at Jayadev Bhawan. This event attracted prominent artists, cultural figures, and dance aficionados.


A key moment of the evening was the presentation of the Nayika Samman to Padma Shri Guru Geeta Mahalik, recognizing her lifelong dedication to promoting and elevating Odissi on a global stage. Additionally, Guru Satyaban Paschimakabata received the Nayika Kala Sadhaka Samman for his exceptional contributions to art and culture.


Notable attendees included Guru Dr. Snehaprabha Samantray, Dr. Indira Dutta, Meetarani Biswal, Prof. Tara Prasanna Satpathy, and actress Lumraina Satpathy, who praised the festival for its role in fostering classical dance and supporting emerging talent.


During the event, Guru Snehaprabha Samantray referred to Odissi as 'a lived philosophy,' emphasizing the festival's importance in preserving tradition while promoting continuity.


The festival showcased a carefully curated selection of performances that reflected themes of devotion, love, and feminine energy. It commenced with a Mangalacharan by the Angaraga Odissi Dance Institution. Soloist Abhipsa Pati performed 'Dekhiba Para Asare,' illustrating Krishna’s divine love through expressive abhinaya and rhythmic precision.


A group performance by Padamrita Dance Academy explored Parashakti, while a duet by Shraddhaswini Priyadarshini and Chandraprabha Dalai highlighted the subtleties of Nayika Bhava. Jagruti Cultural Academy presented 'Jagajjanani,' depicting maternal divinity, followed by an energetic Sambalpuri folk dance, 'Sargi Phula,' which concluded the evening on a lively note.


Each performance seamlessly blended nritta, abhinaya, and natya, providing the audience with a rich cultural experience.


Conceptualized by Guru Snehaprabha Samantray and organized by Guru Smruti Puspa Panda, the festival highlighted Angaraga’s dedication to preserving and promoting classical dance. The event was hosted by Biswajit Baliarsingh, with communication and branding overseen by Kiran Kavya.


This festival continues to solidify its position as a vital cultural event in Odisha’s artistic landscape.
