Delhi University Launches Financial Support Scheme for Economically Weaker Students

The University of Delhi has initiated a Financial Support Scheme to aid students from economically weaker sections. This program, which began in 2022, offers fee waivers based on family income, with applications open since September 10. Eligible students can apply through the university's official websites. The scheme aims to support meritorious students in various programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Required documents include income certificates, tax returns, and bank details. Financial Support Scheme Overview



The University of Delhi has introduced a Financial Support Scheme (FSS) aimed at assisting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative, which began in 2022, is designed to alleviate financial burdens for those pursuing higher education. The application process for this scheme commenced on September 10. Students interested in applying can do so by visiting the university's official websites: du.ac.in and dsw.du.ac.in. The scheme is managed by the Dean of Student Welfare Office.


Eligibility Criteria and Fee Waiver Details

This financial assistance is available to regular, meritorious students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programs across any department, institute, or center within the University of Delhi. This includes constituent colleges, the five-year integrated B.Tech Program (CIC), School of Open Learning (SOL), and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB).


The fee waiver is determined based on the family's annual income, structured as follows:



  • Annual income up to ₹4,00,000 – Up to 100% fee waiver (maximum ₹15,000).

  • Income between ₹4,00,001 and ₹8,00,000 – Up to 50% fee waiver (maximum ₹10,000).


Documents Required for Application

To apply for the scheme, students must submit the following documents:



  • EWS/OBC-NCL Certificate or Annual Income Certificate for 2024-25 (issued after March 31, 2025). Note that income certificates signed by notary officers are not acceptable.

  • Self-attested copies of the latest Income Tax Return (2024-25) for parents and unmarried siblings under 23 years, if applicable.

  • PAN card for all family members.

  • Signed affidavit.

  • Bonafide certificate from the head of the department or institute.

  • Mark sheet from the last completed examination.

  • Latest fee receipt.

  • Bank passbook (showing the student’s name, account number, and IFSC) or a cancelled cheque.
