Delhi University Launches AI-Focused Filmmaking Course for Students
Introduction to AI in Filmmaking
Delhi University (DU) is set to introduce a new six-month skill-oriented course named "AI in Filmmaking" through its Campus of Open Learning (COL). This program is slated to commence in January 2027 and is open to students who have completed their Class 12 education, as well as those enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Rationale Behind the Course
The necessity for this course arises from the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence in the creation of short films, videos, and other visual media. AI simplifies content production, making it faster and less resource-intensive. With the growing popularity of AI tools among young people, COL aims to provide structured training in this innovative field.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is designed to teach students how to effectively apply AI in filmmaking. It will encompass not only the theoretical aspects of AI tools but also their practical applications. Students will learn to produce visual content using AI and understand the various stages involved in the filmmaking process.
Hands-On Training Experience
Students will benefit from practical training at COL's dedicated studio, where they will engage in hands-on filmmaking tasks. This experiential learning approach will allow them to incorporate AI technology into various phases of film production, ensuring they acquire practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.
Potential Career Opportunities
Payal Mago, Director of COL, emphasizes that mastering content creation with minimal resources can lead to new income opportunities for students. Graduates of the course will be equipped to produce short films, advertisements, social media content, and more, enabling them to pursue freelance work or supplementary income streams.
Syllabus Development
The syllabus for this innovative course is currently under development, tailored to meet the demands of the film production industry and the current job market. The goal is to provide students with applicable skills that they can utilize in their future careers.
Future Initiatives at DU
In addition to the filmmaking course, DU plans to broaden its initiatives in the AI sector. According to Payal Mago, the university intends to establish a specialized AI center aimed at nurturing young talent proficient in AI technology for film production.
