Development of Sports Grounds in Delhi Schools

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, has announced plans to establish advanced sports facilities in government schools throughout the capital. This initiative aims to provide exceptional training in various sports to students from an early age, enabling them to achieve success at both national and international levels.

During a significant meeting with the Education Department at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing departmental activities and instructed officials to create a comprehensive plan for this ambitious project. Senior members from the Chief Minister's Office were also in attendance.

Collaboration with Sports Academies

To foster sports development, the government will collaborate with multiple sports academies. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be established with these academies for training in sports such as cricket, boxing, taekwondo, football, and swimming. These academies will be granted access to sports facilities and necessary resources. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of systematic sports training from a young age, allowing children to pursue their aspirations confidently.

Focus on Rural Areas

The Chief Minister revealed that the Education Department currently oversees 799 school campuses. Officials have been tasked with identifying schools suitable for developing sports grounds or auditoriums. Where ample space exists, modern sports facilities will be constructed, while multi-purpose auditoriums or mini sports arenas will be built in areas with limited space. Priority will be given to schools in rural regions to ensure equitable opportunities for rural talent. The government is also exploring the possibility of adding swimming pools in select schools to provide foundational training in major sports. The Chief Minister assured that there would be no budget constraints for this initiative, which will be launched promptly.

Attractive incentive programs have been introduced for athletes who excel at national and international competitions. The government is offering prize money of ₹7 crore for Olympic gold medalists, ₹5 crore for silver medalists, and ₹3 crore for bronze medalists. Furthermore, provisions have been made to offer financial support and respectable government jobs to promising athletes at both state and national levels.
