In addition to teacher vacancies, there is now a significant number of administrative roles available in Delhi's government schools. The Directorate of Education oversees around 1,090 schools, with 124 positions for Principals and 704 for Vice-Principals currently unfilled. Recruitment for these roles will be conducted directly through the UPSC.

Breakdown of Principal and Vice-Principal Positions

As per a recent circular from the Directorate of Education, the vacancies consist of 124 for Principals and 704 for Vice-Principals, totaling 828 positions. The Principal and Vice-Principal Government School Association indicates that there are 950 sanctioned posts for Principals and 1,670 for Vice-Principals in Delhi. The application window for these roles opened on July 25 and will close on August 14.

Recruitment Process Insights

The association has noted that 50% of the sanctioned posts for both Principals and Vice-Principals will be filled through direct recruitment. The UPSC is responsible for this recruitment, while the other half will be filled via promotions. Out of the 950 sanctioned Principal positions, 475 are allocated for direct recruitment, with 124 currently vacant. Approximately 250 posts have been filled through promotions, leaving around 225 vacant.

Current Status of Vice-Principal Positions

For the Vice-Principal roles, 835 out of 1,670 sanctioned posts are set for direct recruitment. Of these, 704 remain unfilled and will be addressed through the UPSC process. Additionally, about 400 posts are temporarily filled by ad-hoc Vice-Principals, with around 435 vacancies still existing within the promotion quota.
