New Online Admission Portal for Private Schools

Parents in Delhi have received encouraging news as the Directorate of Education has introduced an online admission portal aimed at assisting financially disadvantaged families. This initiative is designed for the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories for the academic year 2026-27, allowing parents to apply from the comfort of their homes without the need to visit schools. This move is a significant advancement towards enhancing accessibility and transparency in education.

Introduction of the Online Admission System

The Directorate of Education has initiated an online platform for private school admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This system will facilitate admissions for nursery, kindergarten, and grade 1, streamlining the entire process digitally to save time and effort.

Beneficiaries of the Initiative

The online admission facility is available for children belonging to three primary categories:

  1. EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Families earning less than ₹2.5 lakh annually.

  2. DG (Disadvantaged Group): This includes SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), orphans, transgender individuals, and children affected by HIV.

  3. CWSN (Children with Disabilities): This category encompasses children with special needs.

Application Process

To apply, parents need to complete the online form available on the official website, edudel.nic.in. They should prepare necessary documents such as an Aadhaar card (if available), residence certificate, income certificate, or caste certificate. It is crucial to provide accurate information, as any discrepancies may lead to application rejection.

Fair Lottery System for Admissions

A total of 25% of seats in private schools are allocated for these categories. Admissions will be conducted through a computer-generated lottery system, ensuring fairness and transparency. The list of selected candidates will be published on the portal, and parents will receive notifications.

Advice for Parents

The Education Department encourages parents to apply promptly and not wait until the deadline. After submitting the application, it is advisable to keep a copy for reference. For any issues, parents can reach out to the nearest help desk or the Education Department office. This new system represents a vital step towards providing equitable access to quality education for underprivileged children.
