Central Government Initiates Employment for Local Engineers in Hilly Regions
Government's Initiative for Local Employment
The central government has made a pivotal move aimed at enhancing the development of hilly and remote regions across the nation. This initiative will allow local young engineers to secure temporary positions within government public sector undertakings for the first time. The goal is to not only create job opportunities but also to equip these young individuals with hands-on experience in modern technology, project management, and practical work. This effort is expected to stimulate infrastructure growth in hilly states, nurture local talent, and mitigate migration issues.
Local Engineers to Be Hired by Government Entities
In a groundbreaking initiative, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), part of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will recruit local engineers on a temporary basis. The first phase of this program will see the hiring of 64 civil engineers in February, specifically targeting local graduates from the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and various northeastern states.
Accelerating Development in Hilly Regions
Officials indicate that local engineers possess a deeper understanding of the geographical challenges, climatic conditions, and ecological aspects of hilly areas. Their involvement in projects like national highways, tunnels, and bridges is anticipated to enhance both the efficiency and quality of work. Additionally, these young professionals will gain exposure to advanced technology and project management skills, which they can leverage in future collaborations with state governments to further develop their regions.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must be residents of the respective state or union territory. A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from an IIT, NIT, or one of the top 100 institutions as per the NIRF ranking is mandatory. Final year students are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree prior to the appointment. Work experience ranging from 0 to 2 years will be taken into account.
