Commencement of CBSE Board Exams

New Delhi: The CBSE board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 commenced on Tuesday, with more than 46 lakh students participating at over 8,000 examination centres both in India and internationally, according to officials.

On the first day, Class 10 students tackled their Mathematics exam, while Class 12 students were assessed in four subjects: Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Shorthand (Hindi), and Shorthand (English).

The Mathematics exams, which included both Standard and Basic levels, proceeded without any issues, and students appeared well-prepared. Notably, there was a discernible difference in how students perceived and performed on the two levels of the Mathematics paper. Alka Kapur, Principal of Modern Public School in Shalimar Bagh, noted that the Mathematics (Standard) paper was well-balanced and thoughtfully structured.

The exam effectively covered all necessary topics, ensuring an equitable distribution of weightage throughout the syllabus. It was not overly lengthy, allowing students to complete it within the allotted time. Overall, the paper was deemed manageable and conducive for students, she remarked.

The Class 10 examinations are set to conclude on March 10, while the Class 12 exams will wrap up on April 9.

The board has advised students to arrive at their examination centres by 10 am, taking into account local conditions such as traffic, weather, and distance.

As has been the case in previous years, some dishonest individuals may attempt to mislead students and parents by disseminating false information on social media during the exam period. This misinformation often includes unfounded claims of question paper leaks and the distribution of alleged question papers for the Class 10 and 12 exams, as stated by a senior official from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Consequently, the CBSE strongly encourages parents, students, schools, and all relevant stakeholders to stay alert and avoid being misled by unverified news, rumors, or fake information. Engaging with or sharing such baseless content can lead to unnecessary stress and confusion, potentially impacting students' readiness during this critical time, the official added.

On Wednesday, Class 10 students will take the Home Science exam, while Class 12 students will participate in the Physical Education test.
