Bihar Government Launches Model Schools for Competitive Exam Preparation

The Bihar government has initiated a groundbreaking program to establish model schools aimed at preparing students for competitive exams like JEE and NEET starting from the 9th grade. This initiative addresses the financial barriers faced by students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with quality education and resources comparable to those in urban areas. With plans to open model schools in every block, the government aims to enhance educational opportunities and success rates in competitive examinations. Admission will be merit-based, ensuring a conducive learning environment for selected students.

Introduction to Model Schools Initiative

Many students often turn to costly coaching centers to prepare for competitive exams, which can be financially burdensome for families, especially in urban areas.

Challenges Faced by Students

After completing 12th grade, students face immense pressure to secure a quality education and a successful career. Admission into engineering colleges necessitates passing rigorous exams like JEE, while medical colleges require NEET scores. These exams are among the most esteemed in India, attracting millions of candidates each year. However, due to limited availability of seats, only a fraction of these students achieve success. The high costs of coaching in metropolitan areas further exacerbate the situation, making it difficult for many families.

Government's Response to Educational Inequality

This situation is particularly challenging for students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who often miss out on opportunities due to financial constraints. In response, the Bihar government has announced a significant initiative. Students enrolled in government schools will now receive preparation for JEE, NEET, and other competitive exams. To facilitate this, a model school will be established in each block, focusing on aligning education with the requirements of these competitive tests.

Early Preparation Starting from 9th Grade

Preparation will begin as early as 9th grade

A key aspect of this initiative is that students will start their preparation as early as the 9th grade. Traditionally, students begin their preparation in the 11th or 12th grades, which often leads to a rushed learning experience. The model schools aim to build a strong foundation for students from the outset. Qualified teachers and subject matter experts will lead the instruction, and regular testing will help students familiarize themselves with exam formats. Additional support such as doubt-clearing sessions, career guidance, and access to a modern library will also be provided, reducing the need for external coaching.

Establishment of Model Schools Across the State

Model Schools to Open in Every Block

The government intends to set up model schools in all 543 blocks throughout Bihar. This initiative aims to offer students in rural and smaller towns educational resources comparable to those available in larger cities. The schools are expected to commence operations in the upcoming academic year. If executed effectively, this program could benefit thousands of students and potentially enhance the success rates of candidates in competitive examinations across the state.

Admission Process for Model Schools

How to Get Admission

Admission to these model schools will not be automatic. An entrance examination will be conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training. Students who pass this exam will be admitted based on merit, ensuring a supportive learning environment. Selected candidates will receive ongoing tutoring focused on competitive exams, with their progress closely monitored.
