Bihar Election Results Spark Optimism for Farmers with Potential Income Boost
Farmers' Hopes Rise Amid Bihar Election Trends
As the results of the Bihar elections unfold, optimism among farmers is on the rise. Early indications show that the NDA is leading, with the BJP projected to secure over 90 seats, igniting renewed hope within the agricultural community.
Should the NDA regain power in Bihar, there is a possibility of an increase in farmers' income. Currently, under the PM Kisan Yojana, farmers receive an annual sum of 6,000 rupees. If the NDA forms the government, this amount could potentially rise to 9,000 rupees.
This anticipated increase would provide significant relief to farmers, directly enhancing their yearly earnings. The PM Kisan Yojana currently disburses 2,000 rupees to farmers three times a year, totaling 6,000 rupees.
These funds are deposited directly into the farmers' bank accounts. The key question now is how this increase will be implemented for farmers in Bihar. During the election campaign, the NDA explicitly mentioned in its manifesto that farmers would receive an additional 3,000 rupees on top of the existing 6,000 rupees, resulting in a total of 9,000 rupees annually.
If this proposal is realized, farmers could see an additional 1,000 rupees in each installment. The NDA's manifesto has termed this enhanced amount the Karpoori Thakur Kisan Samman Nidhi, under which the state government would contribute an extra 1,000 rupees to each of the three installments provided by the central government.
This means that each installment would amount to 3,000 rupees instead of the current 2,000 rupees, with the total transferred directly to farmers' accounts. Approximately 7.3 million farmers in Bihar are registered under the PM Kisan Yojana, and if this commitment is fulfilled, they will benefit directly.
Currently, it remains uncertain whether farmers will need to submit a separate application to access the additional 3,000 rupees. It is possible that those already receiving benefits may be automatically included in this new scheme. However, clarity on this matter will only emerge once the new government is established.
