Agniveers Set to Transition: Benefits and Re-employment Opportunities Explained
Agniveers' Service Completion Approaches
The countdown is on for the inaugural group of 'Agniveers' enlisted in the Indian Army under the Agnipath scheme, as they prepare to conclude their four-year service. This initiative stipulates that 75% of these recruits across the Army, Navy, and Air Force will finish their tenure after four years, with the first group expected to depart on November 21. The remaining 25% will be integrated into the armed forces permanently. This raises an important question: what benefits will be available to those Agniveers exiting the service?
Benefits for Retiring Agniveers
As the first batch of Agniveers prepares to leave, it's essential to understand the benefits they will receive. Upon completing their four-year commitment, these individuals will be entitled to a tax-free lump-sum 'Seva Nidhi' package of around ₹10.04 lakh. This amount includes their personal contributions, a matching government contribution, and interest accrued during their service. Additionally, they will receive insurance coverage worth ₹48 lakh and a skill certificate to assist in future job searches. However, they will not have access to medical or canteen facilities.
Re-employment Initiatives for Ex-Agniveers
Efforts are being made to ensure that former Agniveers have access to government job opportunities. Reserved positions have been established in recruitment processes, along with exemptions from specific exams and tests. Here are the key initiatives aimed at facilitating re-employment for retiring Agniveers.
Portal for Re-employment by the Ministry of Home Affairs
The Ministry of Home Affairs is in the process of creating a dedicated portal to streamline re-employment for former Agniveers. This platform aims to connect them with various government job opportunities.
Reservation and Exemptions in CAPF and Assam Rifles
To enhance re-employment prospects, the paramilitary forces, collectively known as CAPF (including BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP), and the Assam Rifles have introduced reservation policies. Specifically, 50% of positions for Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman roles are reserved for former Agniveers, with a new recruitment category labeled 'Ex-Agniveer' established for these forces.
Exemptions from Physical Tests and Written Exams
Former Agniveers will also benefit from exemptions from the Physical Standards Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and written examinations for recruitment into CAPF and Assam Rifles, specifically for Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman positions.
State-Level Reservations and Age Relaxations
Various state governments have announced initiatives to provide job opportunities for former Agniveers, reserving between 10% to 20% of government positions for them. Additionally, age limit relaxations of 3 to 5 years will be granted, allowing former Agniveers to apply for government jobs with an extended age limit compared to general candidates. The first batch will receive a five-year relaxation. States such as UP, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh have already implemented these measures.
