Agniveers in Indian Armed Forces Get Two-Year Service Extension

In a recent announcement, the Chief of Defence Staff revealed that Agniveers in the Indian Armed Forces will have their service extended by two years, making their total tenure six years. This decision, approved by the Cabinet, comes as a Diwali gift for the soldiers. While 75% of Agniveers will benefit from this extension, the remaining 25% will not, based on performance evaluations. The first batches of Agniveers were initially set to retire soon, but now many will have the opportunity to continue serving. Read on for more details about this significant update.

Major Update for Agniveers

In a significant development for Agniveers serving in the Indian Armed Forces, General N. S. Raja Subramani, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has confirmed a two-year extension of service. This means that Agniveers will now serve for a total of six years instead of the previously established four years. This decision has received the green light from the Cabinet.

A Special Diwali Announcement

This extension comes as a timely Diwali gift for Agniveers, following discussions that had been ongoing for some time. The government had earlier declared that 25% of Agniveers would be eligible for permanent positions.

Extension for Majority of Soldiers

As per the CDS's announcement, 75% of Agniveers will benefit from this two-year extension. However, the remaining 25%, who are assessed to have lower performance metrics, will not receive this extension.

Retirement Schedule for Initial Batches

The first group of Indian Navy Agniveers was set to conclude their service on November 21, followed by the Indian Air Force's first batch on December 21, and the Indian Army's first batch on December 31. With this new extension, 75% of these soldiers will now have the chance to continue their service for an additional two years.
