Supreme Court Postpones NEET PG 2025 Hearing

NEET PG 2025 Update: The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing regarding a petition that seeks greater transparency in the NEET PG 2025 examination until next week. This delay has heightened the stress levels of students who were anticipating the commencement of counseling by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) on September 5. Students have urged the court for an expedited hearing.

Background of the Petition

This year, significant modifications were introduced in the NEET-PG examination process. Initially, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) planned to conduct the exam in two shifts; however, it was ultimately held in a single shift following a Supreme Court directive. This adjustment removed the necessity for normalization, a process used to standardize scores.

Subsequently, the board announced it would publish the complete set of questions and the answer key. However, a revised notice indicated that only the 'Question ID' would be made available, leading to student objections and a subsequent petition for full transparency in the examination.

Supreme Court's Inquiry

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court questioned the petitioners about their claims of a lack of transparency in the examination process. The court inquired if their concerns stemmed from receiving low scores. It noted that when efforts are made to simplify processes, individuals often exploit these opportunities to demand scores and answer keys under Article 32. The petitioners countered that merely releasing the question IDs undermines the purpose of the answer key, as it prevents them from verifying their answers without access to the complete questions.

Upcoming Counseling Schedule

The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the NEET-PG 2025 counseling schedule for the 50% All India Quota seats shortly. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that medical colleges are not required to reapply for seat recognition; they only need to submit their annual reports and fee details.

Exam Details

The NEET-PG 2025 results were published on August 19, following the examination held on August 3. Pushan Mahapatra achieved the highest rank in this exam, which is crucial for admissions into postgraduate medical programs across the nation.

Service Bond Requirement in Karnataka

Students enrolling in medical colleges in Karnataka will be obligated to serve in government positions for one year. A three-year service bond in government hospitals will be compulsory for those admitted under government or All India Quota seats. Non-compliance could result in penalties of up to Rs 18 lakh.
