The National Testing Agency (NTA) has shared crucial information on social media platform X regarding the upcoming NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. This post outlines the exam pattern, distribution of subject-wise questions, and the marking scheme, enabling candidates to better understand the exam structure. According to NTA, the test will consist of a total of 180 questions, with a maximum score of 720 marks. The breakdown includes 45 questions each from Physics and Chemistry, and 90 questions from Biology. Candidates will earn 4 marks for each correct answer, while 1 mark will be deducted for incorrect responses due to negative marking.

NTA has announced that students will be allowed to take their exam booklets home after the test. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), NTA stated, "We want to assure you that extensive arrangements have been made in collaboration with relevant ministries, state governments, and security agencies to ensure a safe and fair examination. The integrity of the process is our top priority, and a robust, multi-layered security system has been implemented. Any attempts to disrupt the process will be dealt with strictly, as protecting the interests of honest and diligent students is our main objective."
Support for Candidates Experiencing Stress
Regarding the exam cancellation, the agency explained that the difficult decision made on May 3 was entirely in the best interest of students. "As soon as any issue arose, we took immediate steps to maintain fairness for every honest candidate. We have learned from those experiences and have strengthened the system this time around," NTA added. Furthermore, the agency encourages anyone feeling stressed to know they are not alone. The MANAS mental health helpline (14416) is available for those in need of assistance, emphasizing that seeking help is a sign of strength.
Education Minister's Meeting on Exam Preparations
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a high-level meeting to review the preparations for the exam. He stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the examination process. Special officers from the Ministry of Education will visit all states to monitor the examination system and report directly to the NTA command center. Additionally, state nodal officers have been instructed to ensure a stress-free environment and provide all necessary facilities for candidates. Emphasis has been placed on ensuring adequate seating arrangements, drinking water, and other basic amenities at examination centers.
Participation of 222 Officials in the Meeting
Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi noted that the time leading up to the exam is critical, and all instructions must be strictly followed. Meanwhile, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh stated that preparations are underway in collaboration with district administration, police, and intelligence agencies to conduct the exam safely and smoothly. The meeting involved detailed discussions on exam security, logistics, coordination mechanisms, grievance redressal, and compliance with examination guidelines. A total of 222 officials from states, union territories, universities, and higher education institutions participated in the meeting, all pledging their full cooperation for the peaceful, transparent, and smooth conduct of the examination.
