CBSE Launches Re-evaluation Process Amid High Demand from Students
Introduction to CBSE Re-evaluation
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated its re-evaluation process today, responding to a surge in requests from students. Over 400,000 students have sought access to more than 1.1 million answer sheets.
Concerns Raised Post Results
Following the announcement of the CBSE Class 12 Board Examination results for 2026, numerous students have raised concerns regarding their scores. Many have requested copies of their answer sheets, prompting the Board to start the re-evaluation and verification process today. The statistics reveal that 404,319 students have applied to view their evaluated answer sheets, with requests totaling 1,131,961.
Portal Issues
Despite the scheduled start of the verification process, the CBSE portal is currently undergoing maintenance, displaying a message indicating that it will be available soon.
Record Applications for Answer Sheets
This year, CBSE has reported a record number of applications, with 404,319 students requesting copies of their evaluated answer sheets. Approximately 898,000 answer sheets have been made available digitally, a significant increase compared to previous years, highlighting the rising concerns among students.
Issues with the OSM System
The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system was employed for evaluating answer sheets this year. While CBSE claims this method enhances speed and transparency, many students have questioned its effectiveness. Complaints have surfaced regarding unexpectedly low marks and unassessed answers, with several students sharing their grievances on social media.
Fee Adjustments for Post-Result Services
In response to feedback from students and parents, CBSE has revised its fees for post-result services. Students can now obtain scanned copies of their answer sheets for ₹100 per subject, with the same fee applicable for mark verification. Re-evaluation fees will be charged on a per-question basis, aimed at easing the financial burden on students.
Eligibility for Re-evaluation
Students dissatisfied with their marks can first download a scanned copy of their answer sheets for review. If they identify any unassessed questions or marking errors, they may apply for verification and re-evaluation. It is important to note that after re-evaluation, a student's marks may increase, decrease, or remain the same, and the final marks will be issued post-process.
Ongoing Debate on Transparency
The discussion surrounding the OSM system continues, with student organizations, parents, and education experts advocating for improved transparency in the evaluation process. While digital evaluation is seen as the future of education, addressing current technical and administrative issues is crucial for its success.
