CBSE Implements New Rules for 10th and 12th Board Exams in 2026
Introduction to CBSE Board Exam Preparations
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is gearing up for the upcoming 10th and 12th board examinations scheduled for 2026. Currently, students in these grades are being prompted to complete their exam registration forms. In this context, CBSE has released a set of guidelines that must be adhered to in order to sit for the board exams. It is crucial for students to comply with these seven stipulated conditions, as failure to do so will result in ineligibility for the examinations.
Mandatory Rules for Board Examinees
CBSE has outlined seven essential rules that all students must follow to participate in the 10th and 12th board examinations. The board emphasizes that these regulations are designed to uphold educational standards and ensure transparency throughout the examination process. Here are the seven mandatory rules:
1. Students must complete two consecutive years of study to qualify for the board exams.
2. A minimum attendance of 75% is required for eligibility.
3. Internal assessments will be compulsory over the two-year period; results will not be released without them.
4. Class 10 students may select up to two additional subjects, while Class 12 students can choose one, both of which must be studied for two years.
5. Subjects lacking necessary school permissions (like teacher availability or lab access) cannot be taken for the board exams.
6. Students with 'compartment' or 'essential repeat' status in additional subjects can reappear as private candidates.
7. Non-compliance with these rules will prevent students from taking additional subjects as private candidates.
Changes in Class 10 Examination Structure
Starting in 2026, CBSE will introduce two board examinations for Class 10. The first exam will be mandatory, while students will have the option to take a second exam to improve their scores.
