Winter Vacation Updates: School Closures Across Northern India
Winter Approaches: School Holiday Preparations
As November draws to a close and December approaches, the chill of winter is becoming more pronounced in Northern India. Many states are experiencing a drop in temperatures, accompanied by morning and evening fog, making it challenging for children to attend school. Consequently, several states are gearing up for winter vacations. Here’s a look at the anticipated school closures across various regions.
Holiday Plans Amidst Intensifying Cold
From Delhi to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, state education authorities are determining holiday schedules based on the prevailing weather conditions. Notably, Rajasthan has officially declared its winter break.
Rajasthan's Winter Break Dates
In Rajasthan, winter vacation is set to commence on December 25, 2025, and will last until January 5, 2026. This break applies to all government and private educational institutions. The holiday dates have been established in accordance with the Shivira Panchang for the year 2025-26. Given that the cold weather significantly intensifies in the last week of December, this break has been instituted to ensure the safety of students.
Updates from Other States
Education departments in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are expected to announce their winter vacation dates soon, influenced by weather forecasts. Typically, school holidays in these regions begin in late December or early January. While official announcements are pending in many states, it is anticipated that notifications will be issued shortly as temperatures continue to drop.
Given the increasing cold and its impact on children's health, state education departments may consider extending the holiday period this year. The fog and low temperatures make morning classes particularly difficult for students, prompting many states to initiate preparations for the upcoming break.
