Supreme Court Addresses NEET Paper Leak Concerns

New Delhi: The Supreme Court emphasized the need for accountability regarding the NEET paper leak incident, highlighting the emotional toll it takes on students and their families. During a hearing on various petitions, including one advocating for the restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe expressed that such incidents are 'extremely traumatic.'

The Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, reassured the bench that the government is taking the youth's concerns seriously, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing the situation to ensure no gaps remain.

The bench remarked, 'Real accountability is essential to prevent future issues,' stressing the emotional investment families make in their children's education.

Mehta also mentioned that new measures have been implemented for the upcoming NEET-UG re-test, set for June 21.

The court has requested the Centre to submit an affidavit regarding the matter and has scheduled the next hearing for the second week of July.

Previously, on May 12, the NTA had canceled the NEET exam conducted on May 3 due to allegations of a paper leak, with a re-examination planned for June 21.

The CBI is currently investigating the allegations surrounding the paper leak.

It is worth noting that after the NEET-UG questions were reportedly leaked in 2024, the Supreme Court opted not to cancel the exam but issued directives to address paper leak issues and establish criteria for canceling public examinations.
