Overview of QS Global MBA Rankings 2027

The QS Global MBA Rankings for 2027 have been released, showcasing an increase in the number of Indian institutions represented. However, none of these schools have made it into the global top 50. IIM Bangalore leads the Indian institutions, securing a joint 64th position globally.

Ranking Details of Indian Institutions

Following IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad is ranked 70th, while IIM Calcutta holds the 95th position. The rankings were published on September 16, including over 400 full-time MBA programs from 65 countries.

19 Indian Institutions Featured

A total of 19 Indian institutions made it to the QS Global Full-Time MBA Ranking 2027, a significant increase from previous years, where only 7 were included in 2022 and just 5 in 2020. Notably, five institutions entered the rankings for the first time this year, with OP Jindal Global University leading among new entrants, placed in the 171-180 band.

Performance of Established Institutions

Other first-time entrants include Jaipuria Institute of Management, Christ (Deemed to be University) School of Business and Management, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies School of Leadership and Management, and Vikrant University, Gwalior, all categorized in the 301+ range.

IIM Bangalore Maintains Top Position

For the fourth consecutive year, IIM Bangalore is recognized as the top MBA institution in India. However, its global ranking has dropped from 52nd in 2026 to a joint 64th in 2027. The institution excelled in employability, ranking 29th globally and 2nd in Asia.

IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta Rankings

IIM Ahmedabad achieved a joint 70th rank in the QS MBA Ranking 2027, being the only Indian institution in the global top 100 for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, with a global rank of 84 in this category. Meanwhile, IIM Calcutta secured the 95th position globally, reflecting changes in the rankings of these three prominent IIMs compared to last year.

Top 10 Global Institutions

American Institutions Dominate

The QS MBA Ranking 2027 highlights a strong performance from American business schools, occupying the top four positions. MIT Sloan School of Management claimed the first spot for the first time, followed by Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

In Asia, the National University of Singapore Business School ranked highest, coming in at 23rd globally.

Criteria for MBA Rankings

Evaluation Metrics

QS assessed business schools based on several key criteria, with employability weighted at 40%, followed by value for money at 20%, and alumni outcomes and thought leadership each at 15%. Diversity accounted for 10% of the evaluation.

According to QS, Indian business schools faced competition from global institutions in areas such as return on investment, entrepreneurship, alumni outcomes, and diversity. Additionally, 10 Indian institutions improved their performance in thought leadership this year.

While the presence of Indian institutions in the QS MBA Ranking 2027 has increased, none have yet secured a spot in the global top 50.
